The Sky's falling in next October and I can't wait! #Bond23
BOND IS BACK…
"When Dr No was released, nobody thought that we were going to get 50 years of James Bond, never mind 23 movies"- Bond producer Michael G Wilson
And yet on a wet and miserable morning on November, press from around the world and countless numbers of fans viewing on the Internet and Sky Plus, gathered to hear them announce the 23rd movie in the Bond Franchise. A film which, as rumours predicted, will be called "Skyfall" I know, I know..doesn’t exactly scream Bond film at me either, but you’ve got to admit, it is better than Quantum of Solace!
So, what other pieces of intel did the Skyfall team have to impart in this first briefing for 007’s latest mission? Well..shooting begins TODAY,and not on Nov 7th as predicted. Apparently Bond will be visiting Whitehall, (hence the conference being held in a Central London hotel, rather than Pinewood) Pinewood, Scotland, Istanbul and Shanghai on his “journey”.
Whilst in terms of casting; Albert Finney, Ben Wishaw and Ralph Fiennes WILL be joining the cast in, as yet unnamed roles. When asked about why their roles had not been named, the producers cryptically hinted that it could be, because fans ALREADY knew the names. Adding of course to the rumours that their could be appearances from younger, reinventions versions of classic Bond Villains.
Javier Bardem, who told reporters that one of his earliest cinema going memories was being taken to see a Bond film, will be as predicted, playing the as yet unnamed villain of the piece.
As for the girls. Naomie Harris will be playing a field agent called EVE. There was no mention of her rumoured portrayl of Miss Moneypenny, unless of course, MM has been rechristened from Jane to Eve for new movie? Either way, Eve sounds like my kinda girl, with Harris undergoing two months of training full of stunt driving and machine gun firing for the part!
French actress Berenice Marlohe will be playing a mysterious and enigmatic character called Severin. Which immediately caused some journalists to question whether the plot will mirror that of the latest Bond novel Carte Blanche, what with the names of the heroines being so similiar. But according to producers Skyfall is it’s a seperate Bond story, with no connection to any Fleming story or, the previous two films. Meaning that the Quantum plot line that ran through CR and QOS is on ice. Something I have to admit, I’m not to sorry about, as it seemed to have lost it’s way in QOS.
In another cryptic comment Barbara Broccoli revealed that the title Skyfall, has an “emotional significance to an event that happens near the end of the film.” Nope I have no idea either, but I can’t wait to find out!
Now I have to admit, that when I heard Sam Mendes was directing this latest Bond film I was a little bit worried. As whilst he is a brilliant director, he is not really known for his action pieces. And Bond really is as much about the action as the drama. But fear not Bond fans. It seems Mr M knows his limitations, as he said that whilst the final decisions will be his, and that the action will have to compliment the drama going on around it, he will be taking the advice and guidance of his second unit director, who is very well versed in action and willing to help him through the ‘new world’ of action set pieces.
And too finish this little scribble, before I head off to calm down a bit and chew over this mornings excitement alongside my lunch. Two revelations that had me squealing happily. When asked whether my James…I mean Daniel Craig would be doing another Bond film after this one..he is contracted for three, with an option on a fourth..Barbara Broccoli proclaimed ” Definately” Whilst DCraig merely answered;
“If I can do this for a few more years, I’ll be happy”
Er..so will we Daniel love, so will we!! And not only because he will be taking his shirt off in this one…it’s official, he will…Barbara B said so…and..and..be still my heart, as Michael G Wilson chipped in “If Barbara has her way, it’ll be more than just his shirt” I shall be passing round the collection hat for the very large present we ladies will be sending Miss Brocoli Lol..
I hope Daniel Craig stays on for at least one more Bond film because, apart from looking amazing in a tux and swim trunks…he is a damn fine actor, who really does convey both Bond’s often animalistic and unpredictable physicality, and his inner conflict at trying to balance the mental and emotional demands of his job exceptionally well. With Craig’s Bond, you can see in those blue eyes a man who wants to do his job, who wants to protect Queen and Country, but who also wants a chance at being considered as more than a ‘blunt instrument’ as M once called him. So that he can cling onto a small part of James Bond the man, rather than just becoming another killing machine.
Okay, I’ll stop now..anyway, thanks for reading this little ramble. Apologies for any errant comma’s etc, but excitement, lack of time and images of Bond can do that to a girl! Right..that’s me back off to BondGirl training camp for #bond24!!
“I heard what you said. I’m not the silly romantic you think. I don’t want the heavens or the shooting stars. I don’t want gemstones or gold. I have those things already. I want… a steady hand. A kind soul. I want to fall asleep, and wake, knowing my heart is safe. I want to love, and be loved.”—Shana Abé (via thejuliadiaries)
